MARCH 2018 Blog

In Remembrance

We received sad news this week about the loss of another student this year.  We would like to take a moment to honor the memory of Owen Krueger who passed away unexpectedly Sunday night.   Owen was a 9th grade student who enjoyed Anime books, art, computers, and video games.  Owen was also interested in the fields of welding and architecture.  His friends share that Owen had a good sense of humor and his teachers report that he always made them smile.  On Friday, March 9th we will be hosting a school-wide fundraiser to honor Owen’s memory.  Staff and students will be wearing red and orange on Friday, two of Owen’s favorite colors.  Please keep Owen’s family and friends in your thoughts at this time.

Community 2000 Fundraiser

On Sunday, March 31st, Community 2000 is hosting a Virtual Masters Golf Event to raise funds for the Community 2000 Scholarship efforts that support our Chariho students.  The Community 2000 Virtual Masters Scholarship event will take place at 4:00 pm on Sunday, March 31st at the Richmond Country Club Golf.  For more information and to view the brochure and registration, please click here.   Please contact Chris Philips at jchrisphilips@aol.com if you have any questions.

Upcoming PSAT & SAT Testing

On April 10th sophomores take the PSAT and juniors take the SAT.  While these two assessments have always served nationally as a measure of student readiness for post-high school success, their value has increased as they are now a measure of school performance for all Rhode Island schools.  We are proud of the learning experiences we provide our students, and our recognition as a RI Commended school, the only school in the state with a Career and Technical Center.  We want to ensure that the Chariho diploma increases in value, and serves as a vehicle for increased opportunities for our graduates. These tests are also the primary means of meeting Chariho's Standardized Assessment Requirement for graduation.  Please join us in encouraging your students to take these exams seriously, to come to school rested and fed, and to do their very best towards improving future opportunities for themselves and all Chariho students.

ARTESSY

Please join us for Artessy this year, which will take place on Friday, March 16th and Saturday, March 17th.

SURVEY WORKS

This is a reminder that you have the opportunity to give feedback about our high school through SurveyWorks. SurveyWorks is a statewide survey that asks you questions about the learning environment of schools.  This is an opportunity to let Chariho Regional High School leadership know what you think about your child’s experience.  We are always open to suggestions on how to improve the learning environment for your children.

Topics on the survey include school safety, school climate, learning strategies, family support and others. As in previous years, all surveys are anonymous.

The survey results are most useful when all parents participate.  Please participate as we are looking for 100% participation! Your views on matters like the safety of your child at school, the way students are taught, the condition of the school, and how connected you feel to this school are important.  By taking this short survey you can help our school leadership and School Improvement Team. Responses are anonymous and cannot be linked to any individual; no one can tie your responses back to you. For more information about Survey Works, please click here.

You can take the short survey online between now and March 31st, 2018.   To do so is easy, visit:  surveys.panoramaed.com/ride and enter the access code 98101family. If you don’t have access to the Internet, please contact Mrs. Nikki Scott at 364-7778 ext. 2102 to access a paper survey.
