MARCH 2021

SHIFTING TO SEMESTER 2

We have closed out Semester 1 of a very unique academic year!  We are very proud of our students and how they have adapated to in-person, distance and concurrent learning.  Students participated in a week of virtual exams and are now in their 3rd week of Semester 2.  We have sought feedback from our teachers, Student Advisory Board, School Improvement Team, and department chairs on our Semester 1 exams. We will be using this feedback to inform decision-making for Semester 2 exams.  More information to follow in the near future.

Our Student Advisory Board, guidance department and teachers are actively working to find ways to celebrate our students and honor our upperclassmen as we head towards the second half of the year.  Stay tuned for ways to celebrate and support our students!

STATE TESTING DATES

State assessments are an important component of Chariho's Comprehensive Assessment System. These assessments provide us with information to measure the effectiveness of our curriculum and programs and identify areas where students may need extra support. Your child's test results also provide information about his/her progress towards being on the road to college and career readiness. Also, a qualifying score may meet one of Chariho's reading and/or mathematics standardized assessments graduation requirements.

We have identified our dates for SAT (grade 11), PSAT (grade 10) and RINGSA (grade 11) State Testing. Please view this letter to learn more about our state testing dates and which grade levels are expected to report in-person for state assessments. In order to provide a socially distanced and ideal testing environment, certain grade levels will remain at home for in-person learning on specified testing dates. Page 2 of the letter contains a calendar outlining all information and dates. Please also make note that our Green/White calendar is adjusted for the week of April 12th. We have inserted a visual of the calendar below as well:

ANNUAL BUDGET HEARING

March 2 is our Annual Budget Hearing at 7:30 pm.  You will need to register using this link, answer the required questions (ensuring it matches your voter registration information), and be a registered voter in Hopkinton, Charlestown or Richmond to be counted towards the quorum. The Chariho Act states we will need 25 residents from each town to attend. The Board of Canvassers will be reviewing all information to confirm the quorum.

You must register and then attend the 7:30 pm meeting in order to be counted towards the quorum.

FROM OUR DIVERSITY BOOK CLUB

Attention CHS Students:  Our School Committee Approved, Diversity Book Club is an after school club that examines diverse stories from underrepresented groups. With the advisor's support and encouragement, students and faculty engage in meaningful dialogue that addresses cultural awareness, inclusivity and appreciation for all within our community and beyond. Come join the discussion even if you do not have the chance to read the entire novel; there are plenty of opportunities to participate in these crucial conversations.  Email Mrs. Weeks at Nicole.Weeks@Chariho.k12.ri.us for more information!  See below for information on the next book we are reading and our next meeting, which will be held on March 9th at 2:30.
