AUGUST 2017 Blog

We hope our students and families are enjoying their summer months and taking time to unwind from the end of the school year and are gearing up for the start of school on August 28th. Our August blog contains information to help students best prepare for the start of the 17-18 academic year.  We look forward to seeing you shortly!

Summer Study & Required Reading

Incoming 9th graders will be expected to complete a summer study project that connects their summer experiences to the CHARIHO 10 - the ten expectations that define our graduation portfolio.  Returning students (grades 10-12) will complete a grade-specific assignment to help define, refine and target their post-high school goals.

We are enlisting your support in helping your child identify their academic strengths, career interests, and overall experiences that will reveal how their aptitudes compliment the world of work, pathways to rewarding careers, and resources for presenting their abilities and experiences to prospective organizations, institutions, and employers.  We understand that summer is a busy time, and we are conscious of the many demands on students' and parents' time.   However, we believe that, in an increasingly competitive world, it is our responsibility to provide students with opportunities to enhance and advance their college and career readiness.  With that in mind, we will provide students with an opportunity to complete and deliver their presentation in advisory by the end of September.  Below is a link to the Summer Study website; you can also find this link on the CHS webpage.  The site is rich is resources that support each grade-level summer study assignment.  We also want students to engage in summer reading and by doing so, students can submit a product that fulfills one of the graduation portfolio expectations.  See the link below for additional information about required summer reading...
New Student Orientation

We welcome any student who is new to CHS to attend our summer picnic, which will be held on: Tuesday, August 22nd from 5:00-7:00.  Any student who will be attending CHS for the first time is welcome to attend: 9th graders, transfer students, and new students joining us through our CTC programs.

Student Schedule Changes

Student schedules will be available towards the beginning of August and will be accessible via PowerSchool.  Students who attend our new student orientation on August 22nd will receive a hard copy of their schedule.  Students have up to the first day of school to make changes to their schedules.  After the first day of school, changes cannot be made to a student's schedule.

AP Students

A reminder that Advanced Placement (AP) students should be completing their summer work in order to best prepare for their AP courses.  All AP students are responsible for payment of their respective AP exam(s).  Students will receive a letter with more details about AP exam payment and timelines in September.
