See you on the 9th!
Beginning on February 10th, students will begin the course selection process. It is important that students thoughtfully plan out their course of study. Decisions made in their early high school years can impact future course scheduling. Students are encouraged to access our Program of Studies to map out their plan of study. More information about our Program of Studies can be found in the Program of Studies section below within this blog. Students have been provided with the following steps for the course selection process:
Step 1:

Travel
As many families are contemplating travel and making decisions about upcoming school breaks/vacations we wanted to remind all families of our travel policy. As a reminder, students who travel out of state to any location with a positivity rate greater than 5% (those states are listed here, and the list is constantly updated) will require a 14-day quarantine upon return. Travel for Chariho is defined as going to another state to attend any event/performance, family gathering/party/reunion with people outside of your immediate household. It does not matter if it is overnight or a day trip. This is the preferred response of the RI Department of Health as well as what is required in our school committee approved policy, as a negative test only indicates that the virus is not currently present. In the event there are families who must travel, we ask that you inform your school principal so that we can accurately record absences and communicate with staff about attendance and plans for continuity of education upon return.
A Message from our Nurse
Please click here for important messaging from our school nurse on health-related topics. The link also contains information about upcoming dental and vision screenings.
Is an Independent Study for You?
Independent Study is a student-centered, credit-bearing course of study, which is designed and pursued entirely by the student. It provides a unique and innovative opportunity for students to be self-directed and take ownership of their learning.
RI Student Assistance Services
The RISAS February Newsletter features information to attend Opioids in Our Community: Perspectives for Parents, a live presentation brought to us by RI PBS, RI Student Assistance Services, and the Department of Behavioral Health, on Wednesday, February 2, 2021 from 6:30pm to 7:30pm. The event brings parents and guardians together with a panel of educators, counselors and health experts. The goal is to provide insight on opioid use disorder and to share resources.
The newsletter also has information to support students living with adults struggling with alcohol addiction. Please use this link to access the RISAS February Newsletter.

Necessity for School Construction Survey
The Chariho School Committee is looking for community feedback on the best direction for our district to move forward with as it relates to our elementary schools. Based on feedback and data this decision will then be moved to a vote for all our taxpayers to weigh in. Please complete this quick survey. Your feedback is appreciated.
