OCTOBER 2018 Blog

Open House

Faculty and students are looking forward to seeing you at Open House on Thursday night, October 4th, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.  Open House will follow a similar structure to the redesign of Open House last year, but with a few improvements to scheduling.

You can:
  • Meet the CHS/CTC Leadership Team at 5:30 PM in the library to hear our vision for our school community.
  • Visit with your child’s teachers during the locations indicated in the Big Picture Showcases & Departmental Offerings listed on the pages below.  At these offerings you can attend scheduled presentations highlighting courses, meet teachers, learn about department themes and opportunities for students, and hear and see students demonstrate their learning.
  • Connect to important student support resources and learn about ways you can get involved in our school community at our Parent Outreach Fair in the cafeteria.

This event is not designed for conferencing with your child’s teachers; it is an opportunity to Explore, Connect and Learn.

Use the map and overview of scheduled showcases and departmental offerings included in this link to shape your own evening and get the most out of this important event.
In order to plan your itinerary for the evening, your child can assist in highlighting their teachers’ names below or you can pull your student’s schedule from PowerSchool in order to find their teachers.  To access your student’s schedule in PowerSchool please visit: https://www.chariho.k12.ri.us/powerschool.  If you need login access, on that same page is a link that states, “Request Parent/Guardian Access Codes for your Students”; click this link, fill out the form and our clerks will assist in getting you that information.  Please note that usernames and passwords will not be given out over the phone or via email.  You can pick them up in person or they can be mailed home.

Hope to see you at Open House!

Reading in French...

On September 12, 2018 the General Consulate of France in Boston announced its selection of the pedagogical project submitted by CHS/CMS French teacher, Claire Leatham, as part of the initiative “The Magic of Reading in French.” Mrs. Leatham is very pleased that Chariho is thus one of 25 winning school districts in New England. Each winning school receives 70 books in French for its library media center. These French books selected by Mrs. Leatham promise to help develop a francophone environment at CHS and CMS and to spark students’ interest in French language and culture. The books are expected to arrive in a few short weeks.

(The "Magic of reading in French" project is made possible by the generous support from the following sponsors of the Consulate General of France in Boston: Edenred and The Family Charitable Fund - Catheline van den Branden & Jeffrey Plunkett).
