JUNE 2017 Blog

As we approach the end of the school year, we prepare for end of the year wrap-up activities while also readying next year's 9th-12th graders for their summer study and the upcoming school year.  In this issue we want to focus your attention to steps to prepare for the end of the academic year.  For 12th grade parents, we share upcoming senior events and ways to prepare for graduation.  For 9th-11th grade parents, we highlight expectations for your child's summer study project and preview beginning of the year kick-off events.

As a leadership team, we have both enjoyed our first year as Principal and Assistant Principal and are grateful for our students and faculty every day.  We enjoy 'Leading the Herd' and look forward to welcoming our incoming 9th graders and creating new memories. We hope you enjoy this month's issue and want to close our last issue with our personal messages to this year's graduating seniors...

Class of 2017,

Of course, your graduation is bitter-sweet!  As my first graduating class as Principal, I'm so proud of all you have accomplished and excited to see what great opportunities the future brings.  More importantly, I'm humbled by the who you have become.  Our school has witnessed a transformation during your four years, not just in how we teach and learn, but in how we treat each other.  #D-Strong, The 22-Push Up Challenge, the emergence of Humanities & STEM experiences, Anderson Productions, the growth and action of Student Advisory Board, and The Best Spirit Week Ever are all testimony to your investment in each other and to creating memorable experiences for all Chargers. We are a stronger, more united school community because of your presence.  For that and so much more, I thank you!

~Mr. MacKenzie

Class of 2017,

For the past year, you have experienced what it means to be a senior, with the pressures and excitement of preparing for life after high school. You have made this year memorable for so many reasons.  I was so impressed with the energy and enthusiasm you brought to Spirit Week; that week will go down in history!  You have honored past Charger traditions, but also paved new paths by giving back to others and the school community through events like the football tailgating fundraisers, the Homelessness Awareness Sleepout, and helping CHS “GoGreen”, to name a few.  You have helped ‘lead the herd’ by quickly adapting to our use of technology, thus allowing us to better personalize your instruction.  Your experiences and all that you have achieved will help shape the experiences of future Chargers.  Whether you are moving on to college or a career, remember what it means to be a Charger and bring those high expectations with you to your future endeavors. Thank you for making my first year as Assistant Principal one I will never forget.

~Mrs. Spas

Summer Study

Incoming 9th graders will be expected to complete a summer study project that connects their summer experiences to the CHARIHO 10 - the ten expectations that define our graduation portfolio.  Returning students (grades 10-12) will complete a grade-specific assignment to help define, refine and target their post-high school goals.

We are enlisting your support in helping your child identify their academic strengths, career interests, and overall experiences that will reveal how their aptitudes compliment the world of work, pathways to rewarding careers, and resources for presenting their abilities and experiences to prospective organizations, institutions, and employers.  We understand that summer is a busy time, and we are conscious of the many demands on students' and parents' time.   However, we believe that, in an increasingly competitive world, it is our responsibility to provide students with opportunities to enhance and advance their college and career readiness.  With that in mind, we will provide students with an opportunity to complete and deliver their presentation in advisory by the end of September.  Below is a link to the Summer Study website; you can also find this link on the CHS webpage.  The site is rich is resources that support each grade-level summer study assignment:
