Summer Study Expectations

Each summer, all 9th grade CHS students complete a summer study project that connects their summer experiences to the Chariho 10--the ten expectations that define our graduation portfolio. Returning CHS students will complete a grade-specific assignment to help them define, refine, and target their post-high school goals. Students present their Summer Study in advisories during the month of September.

We understand that summer is a busy time, and we are conscious of the many demands on students’ and parents’ time.  However, we also believe that in an increasingly competitive world it is our responsibility to provide students with opportunities to enhance and advance their college and career readiness.  With that in mind, we will provide students with the same opportunity that was afforded during this school year to complete and deliver their presentation in advisory by the end of September.  We also have designed alternative approaches to the grade-level projects that consider the varying resources and flexibility of some of our students.

On the reverse side of this letter there is an overview of the summer study assignments and a link to the Summer Study website.  You can also find a link on the CHS webpage. Please click here to view Summer Study Expectations for each grade level.  The site is rich in resources that support each grade-level summer study assignment.

Thanks in advance for your support of this initiative.

Reflections from the Quebec Trip!

Twenty-six CHS students from grades 10-12 participated in the highly successful 2019 Québec Trip this year. Students and chaperones spent April 10-13 in the wonderful, historic Quebec City.  Each day of the trip included the challenge of using the French language in context as well as numerous fun, cultural discoveries. In the first photo, taken at a crêpe restaurant called “Au Petit Coin Breton”, students are speaking French on the daily prompts about weather, tour visits and meal experiences of that day. The second photo shows students doing Québécois folk dancing at the maple sugar shack “L’Entailleur”. In the third photo, also, at the sugar shack, students are enjoying the maple treat “Tire sur la neige”. The fourth photo was taken at the dinner dance held at the famous water falls outside Québec City called les Chutes de Montmorency. Mrs. Leatham would like to thank all the parents for helping their sons and daughters take advantage of this wonderful opportunity and to congratulate the student travelers on their enthusiastic engagement in all the trip activities and challenges. “ Vive le Québec”----“Je me souviens”
